Playing School

So what do you do when you get home from school and have friends over?  Play school of course.

First Day of Kindergarten

Wow!  We can't believe it is already here.  Our girls were so excited, so beautiful and so brave on their first day of school.  Mom only cried a few times at the most random moments.  With five kindergarten classes and a million parents there to take pictures this morning was CRAZY.  The girls were so brave during all the chaos.  I hardly recognized the expressions on their faces.  I think they were both a little nervous.

Be the Cookie.

On Wednesday night, friends called and said that their Cookie Monster fell through for their 3-year old's birthday party.  So, in a pinch, who do you call?  A good friend.  A friend that gives.  Give, give, give.  A giver, a selfless giver.  Lean on me, I say, when you're not strong, I'll be your Cookie, I'll help you carry on.

Below is my 11th hour rendition.  I've studied the game film many times and have identified a number of potential improvements.  But not bad for my first effort.  Be the cookie.

You sweat a lot in those things.
And you can't see.
The worst part about the whole thing was walking in costume from my house to the car.

Granny's Lake House 2012

We had another amazing vacation in Virginia at Granny's Lake House.  2 day (20 hour long) road trip, followed by 5 days of swimming, reading, olympics, ipads, family, amazing food and fun followed by 2 day long road trip home.

So what do 32 people do all day in a 7 bedroom, 3 bathroom lake house.  Here is a little video snapshot of some of the things that go one while not swimming or reading on the deck:

What did we ever do before tv and ipads?

The girls knee boarded for the first time.  We couldn't have been more amazed or proud.  Brianna and Hadley both pulled up onto their knees on their first try and acted like they have been doing it their whole lives.   Mia was a little more cautious and decided she just want to ride on her tummy for a while.  However, on day 2 with daddy watching she decided she too was going to climb up onto her knees.  Awesome.  So fun.

Also after Bri's first time she firmly told me to get out of the water that she did not need help.  She could do it by herself and that she like going fast and could handle the bumps.  Heaven help us.

Note:  all fashion goes out the window for mom when being left to hang out in the middle of the lake.  However, the yellow hat was probably not necessary.  Because this lake is amazing.  It is a bit smaller than the Lake of the Ozarks however while out boating every day we maybe saw one fisherman.  So I was in no risk of being run over.  My bigger fear was being nibbled by fish.

Hadley's Day of Firsts

Today was a big day for Hadley.  It was her first day of gymnastics.  She was adorable and I might say we might be looking at a future Olympian (not that I am a proud parent or anything).  But her teacher came right up to me after class and said "she did great".

After gymnastics her day just got even bigger.  She passed the deep end test on her last day of swimming lessons on July 26.  That means she swam the length of the pool which is 50 ft.  She actually did it twice I might add because she failed it the first time when she put her feet down 5 ft shy of the finish line.  I don't think she totally understood what she had to do.  Well the second time Brianna, Mia and I were all cheering her on.  I think Bri was as excited as I was.

So since she passed the deep end test that meant she could go off the diving board and do the climbing wall at the pool today.  She did great and was so adorable standing in line considering she was half the height of all the other kids.  Nothing cuter.

And finally Hadley's last big girl accomplishment:  she got to ride in a  booster seat today with a seat belt.  I wasn't going to add it but when I recounted at bedtime what a big day she had she told me not to forget the seat belt.

It was a great day!
